Part of Fringe x Playwright Pals

Part of Things is in the business of bringing local creative ideas to life. We are fiercely regional with current projects in the Riverland, Port Lincoln and Mount Gambier. Part of Fringe x Playwright Pals is a three-year strategy to build the skills, confidence, networks, and capacity of regional storytellers to develop, create, and present new original performance work.

Part of Fringe x Playwright Pals is a three-year process:

  • 2025 is seeding ideas with up to five playwrights* in each location through the support of monthly facilitated gatherings, and three online masterclasses alongside bespoke mentoring and producing support.
  • 2026 will nurture up to two project ideas in each location and present further developed work-in-progress showings (with dramaturgical input) to local audiences. Playwrights with active work in development will also have the opportunity to attend the South Australian Performing Arts showcase to learn about pitching their work.
  • 2027 will bring one or more of the projects to life as a fully realised Fringe-style production in their local community (with potential for a remount in Adelaide in the same or subsequent years).

We will continue to support all of the participating writers across the three-year process (even if their work is not selected for production). This support will include:

  • 3 x grantwriting workshops (1 per year & open to other local artists by negotiation)
  • Up to 10hours of 1:1 Part of Things mentoring per project, per year
  • Invitations to pitch and share excerpts of their work through Part of Things other activity.

YEAR ONE (2025)

The first year will support up to five writers each in Mount Gambier, Port Lincoln and the Riverland (15writers total) meeting monthly on Zoom and in person to develop their skills, networks and their own ideas for new performance work/s. All participating writers will have access to bespoke individual mentoring across the year, three Masterclasses across this first year, and six of the fifteen writers will have the opportunity to attend a four-day networking and professional development immersion at Adelaide Fringe 2025. We’ll also present readings (scratch night style) in October 2025 of all the works in progress to develop the confidence and profile of the writers in their local communities, and to get ideas up on their feet to test and develop the writer’s skills.

We would love to hear from people of all backgrounds, ages, writing styles, and professional experience levels.

*we are using the term playwrights but the program is open to any storytellers writing work for performance, including: songwriters creating cabaret work, spoken word poetry creators, non-traditional and experimental performance writers that may not use the term playwright themselves, and anyone else writing for performance based experiences.

A note on locations – the listed towns are where the monthly in-person gatherings and scratch nights will occur. People who live in the nearby region but are willing to travel are very welcome and encouraged to express interest.
